Dodger Game Recaps and News!

Monday, 5/9, Dodgers (2) vs Tigers (6):
After a shaky start giving up 5 runs in the first, the Dodgers steadied the ship but could not overcome the
early deficit, falling 6-2 to the Tigers.  Tom Rollman pitched a complete game, striking out three.  Both Dodger runs were scored by Anthony Valentini, one on an RBI by Tom Scanlon in the 3rd, and the other on a steal home in the 5th.  Tom Rollman led offensively with 2 singles, with Tom Scanlon, Michael Cioffi and Dan Allen each contributing a single.  Defensively the Dodgers played tough, with some key plays by Corey Redenz, Michael Moruzin, Michael Detlor, Anthony Valentini, Joe Petrone and Dan Allen.

Thursday, 5/12. Dodgers (3) vs Yankees (12):
On a cool spring evening, the Dodgers played a strong overall game, but ultimately lost to the Yankees 12-3.
The game was close throughout with the score tied at 3 after four innings, but a rough 5th inning proved to be the Dodgers undoing.  Joe Petrone contributed four innings of strong, gutty pitching that was highlighted by 4 strikeouts.  The offense was led by Mike Moruzin (2 hits), Anthony Valentini (hit and a walk), Corey Redenz, and Mike Detlor with one hit each.  Tough defensive plays by Dan Allen and Tom Rollman helped keep the game close until the very end.

Saturday, 5/28, Dodgers (1) vs Yankees (11):
Joe Murphy of the Yankees held the Dodgers to a single run, scored early by Mike Moruzin on an RBI groundout by Tom Schretzenmayer.  Joe Petrone pitched well as the Dodgers' starter.  Scott Allen struggled with control in relief.  While he struck out several Yankee batters, several walks, passed balls and overthrows resulted in a large lead for the Yankees.  Billy Klages and Joe Petrone singled but were stranded on base as the Dodgers were unable to make a comeback run.

Monday, 6/1, Dodgers(1) vs Mets (15):
What started out as a pretty even match between teams, took a turn in the Mets favor in the 3rd inning when they pulled ahead by more than 8 runs.  The Mets pitching held the Dodgers to just 7 hits.  For the Dodgers, Joe Petrone and Billy Klages pitched most of the game, with Michael Moruzin coming in to end the 3rd.  The three pitchers combined for over 7 strikeouts.  The Dodger's run was scored on a steal home by Tom Rollman.  The hit of the night was made by Nick Schenck, with an amazing blast to left field.  Nick also singled in the 3rd.  The other hits in the game were made by Billy Klages with a double, Tom Rollman, Anthony Valentini, Tom Scanlon, and Joe Petrone with singles.  The key defensive play was a double play, with a throw from Billy Klages to Tom Rollman to get the out at the plate, and then the throw to Joe Petrone at first to get the runner.
